What is the 11+? It is an examination taken by some students in England and Northern Ireland in their last year of primary education, governing admission to grammar schools and other secondary schools.

Timeline: Preparation ideally begins in Year 4 or early Year 5. Exams are typically sat in September of Year 6. We strongly recommend booking a tutor by January of Year 5 to ensure steady, stress-free progression.

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) manages all UK university applications. Your child can apply to up to five courses.

Personal Statement: This 4,000-character essay is crucial. It must demonstrate passion for the subject, relevant extracurriculars, and critical thinking. Our consultants specialize in helping students draft compelling statements.

Deadlines: Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry, and Vet courses typically have an early October deadline. Standard applications are due in late January.

For UK students aiming for the US, the timeline looks different. US colleges look for holistic profiles: grades, standardized test scores (SAT/ACT), and extensive extracurriculars.

SAT vs ACT: Both are universally accepted. The SAT gives more time per question and features deeper math. The ACT is faster-paced with a dedicated Science section. We provide diagnostic tests to determine which suits your child best.

Financial Aid: Be aware of "Need-Blind" vs "Need-Aware" universities for international students. Preparation for US applications should ideally start in Year 11.

Exam stress is incredibly common, particularly during GCSE and A-Level years. As parents, the environment you create at home is vital.

• Encourage regular breaks (The Pomodoro technique: 25 mins work, 5 mins rest).
• Ensure they maintain physical exercise and sleep hygiene.
• Focus on the *process* of revision, not just the final grade expectation.

Reading your textbook and highlighting is passive. It feels like learning, but it often isn't retained. You need Active Recall.

Test yourself *before* you feel ready. Use flashcards, cover the page and summarize out loud, or do past paper questions.

Combine this with Spaced Repetition (reviewing material at increasing intervals: day 1, day 3, day 7, day 21). This fights the "forgetting curve" and cements knowledge in long-term memory.

Divide your page into three sections: a narrow left column (Cues), a wide right column (Notes), and a bottom row (Summary).

- Notes: Take notes during class here.
- Cues: After class, write questions/keywords here that correspond to the notes.
- Summary: Write a 1-2 sentence summary of the whole page at the bottom.

To revise, cover the Notes section and try to answer the questions in the Cues column.

Don't just say "I'll study Math today." Be specific. "I will do 45 minutes of Calculus past papers from 4:00 to 4:45."

• Allocate harder subjects to the time of day you have the most energy.
